Stop trying to download or upload contacts to get them into your CRM!

This was a post on Facebook.

"Is there a way to EASILY download my contacts off my iphone into a .CSV file that I can upload to my CRM?
I got them off my phone as .VCF.. but I don't know how to convert them to a .CSV file and then upload to my CRM. (I'm confusing myself.. hope this makes sense to someone?)

(Alternatively is there a CRM that connects to your icloud account and automatically downloads your contacts for you? or is that wishful thinking?)"

The responses irked me because they are wrong!

I have been working in IT for almost 30 years, 20 years just on Email, Email servers, mailflow and wireless devices. So I don't think it is being a KNOW IT ALL because of the experience I have. Here are some of the suggestions, all wrong IMHO.

  • #1 - If you have an iPhone, log into your iCloud account and you can export them into a csv file. You’ll need to do it on a computer.
    • DARCI'S RESPONSE: Yes you can do this, best to use firefox browser, and yes you can 'upload' to your CRM but if your email was actually running off a true business email like yourname@yourdomain.com then you wouldn't have to manage contacts in your CRM AND on your phone.  They would actually sync and talk to each other.

  • #2 - Have used this many times to convert vcard (.VCF) files to .csv for this exact reason. http://www.unc.edu/vtoc/Works well.
    • DARCI'S RESPONSE:  Same as above. :-)

  • #3 - Why not just sync contacts to a google account, then sync Google account with CRM? Best answer!
    • DARCI'S RESPONSE: Google offers 2 email services. 1 free which is a personal @gmail.com account i.e., joesmith79@gmail.com and they offer a business email like Joe@JoeSmith.com. As a person running a business, what looks better?
