Are you overusing hashtags or maybe you aren't sure how this little character can make a huge impact on your social media posts? Don't worry! I will let you in on secrets about using it in the best way you should. Before anything else, let's start by defining a hashtag. "A hashtag is a keyword or phrase preceded by the hash symbol (#), that people include in their social media posts. Essentially, it makes the content of your post accessible to all people with similar interests, even if they're not your followers or fans." So when you include hashtags in your posts, you give other people the capability to see your posts and gives you a broader audience which is what you need, right? Which social media allows the use of hashtags? The two social media I would recommend would be Twitter and Instagram. You can also use it on Facebook, but please please please, use it with caution. Unlike Twitter and Instagram where you can add a ton of hashtags on your posts so you can reach a bigger audience, the same won't look that good on Facebook. This is primarily because of culture. Twitter and Instagram are more liberal! Ha ha. And the other thing is if you put too much hashtag on a Facebook post, it looks really spammy and disorderly. Try to limit to at least a maximum of 3. So, people don't end up unfollowing you because it feels like you're tagging along a ton of items on your post that disrupts the whole flow. For Twitter and Instagram, sky's the limit when it comes to hashtags. But if you are posting from Twitter or Instagram to Facebook you might want to remove the connection and post a separate one on your Facebook page as it would carry over the hashtags and you don't want that! Use hashtags that are relevant to your post. This is what I see as a common mistake. Despite the hashtag culture acceptable in Twitter and Instagram, you don't want to add a hashtag that isn't connected to what you are posting. The topic might seem disconnected if you are posting something about new smart home technology and then add a hashtag that doesn't make sense like #baby or #milliondollarlisting. The most popular ones for real estate that you can use are #realtor #realestate #justlisted #forsale #homesale #dreamhome #newhome I suggest you try out Hashtagify.me as it is a great way to search for the top 10 searched hashtag that is related to a word or phrase you input. Click here to start using it. Create your own #hashtag! Since you are starting to build your hashtag empire into the social media world, why not create your very own hashtag? This is another great way to promote your branding! Just as an example, I use #DarciRealtorTips on my social media posts. It's easier to just tell people to search for your own hashtag to find content that they need. Since people are super mobile these days, take advantage of that and allow them to see how you are doing on social media just by simply typing a few sets of keywords. I hope these tips help you on your hashtag journey! Don't forget to share this to anyone who needs it by clicking the share links below.
