By keeping in contact with your past and present clients, and future clients it allows you to let them know who you are and why they should be working with you. If you helped a client purchase a home 10 years ago but never kept it touch, don't you think they have met another REALTOR® since then? I am always surprised when I ask a client how they keep in touch and they say they aren't.
Starting a monthly newsletter is a valuable marketing tool and will keep you connected with your clients.

1. Do You Need To Ask Before You Send? (Anti-Spam laws)
There is implied consent if they have been a client before however it is also a great opportunity to call you client and make that human connection. "Hi Joe, how have you been? I am just setting up a monthly newsletter about topical and interesting information, is it ok to add your name so you will get it?" Something along those lines, the conversation will flow naturally.
Do not assume that hey want to hear from you. Even though Anti-Spam laws consider existing relationship implied consent, they may not appreciate it so if you do just add them, don't worry if you get unscubscribes. Read more here about consent.
2. Using a Good Template/Theme
Using a good template is extremely important and make sure it is mobile friendly. The cleaner the better and don't forget to add the ability for your readers to share and forward your awesome content! That doesn't just mean having Social Media "like" buttons!
3. They Will Love Seeing Your Listings
Kidding! They don't! Can I say that again, THEY DON'T! It should be 90% other and 10% Real Estate related content or maybe 80-20. Think about your 'list', wouldn't they rather hear about a seasonal or holiday reference, a community event going on, fun things for them to do around the city rather than all about you and your transactions? The answer is YES. You can add that but the main information should NOT be about Real Estate.
An example: You just bought a car and the dealer keeps sending you all his new cars for sale. Do you care? No! But wouldn't it be great if they sent you something about "how often should you clean your car?" of "How do you get bird poop off and what happens if you don't?"
5. Are You Sending Your Email Newsletters By Outlook?
So, not a good idea! You could end up accidentally sending everyone's email address out to all your contacts, which would not be cool. There are lot's of great service providers to use and these will also provide tracking information to show who has opened your email, clicked on your links, liked, forwarded. You want to know if your people are reading your emails and liking the content.
6. Scheduling Your Emails
Are you sending out emails quarterly or bombarding them weekly? Either way sucks! You need to find a balance. We encourage monthly contact so they remember you and you build your relationship. Make a plan and "just do it" or have us do it. But DO IT!
7. Get to Know Your People!
The more value you give them, the more they will remember YOU when they, their friends, colleagues, or whoever is looking for an awesome REALTOR®.
